How to accurately measure your custom hardware dimensions
Outer Diameter
Using a vernier caliper or ruler, horizontally measure the full width of your existing button or fastener at its widest point.
Total Thickness
Hold the caliper vertically against the side of the fastener to measure its overall thickness (including curvature).
Hole / Shank Size
Measure the center distance between holes (for sew-on buttons) or the diameter of the threaded base (for rivets).
